UNCLE: A Traditional African-British Folktale

Pitched, developed, wrote, directed, executive produced, and edited a short film for Channel 4 with animation and co-production by Aniboxx!

Growing up around Black elders, you start to notice their natural gift for storytelling! I vividly remember Uncles and Aunties sharing the wildest stories from their youth with the same flair and vibrancy I’d hear in West African folktales passed down to me through generations.

It was through listening to an elder lament about how many stories were being lost along with more and more of his friends that I gained the inspiration for UNCLE!

One true story taken from an African elder, animated and narrated in the style of the West African folktales I remember so fondly (also a neat stylistic choice to protect the elders’ anonymity).

Through this format, I hope to create an anthology of amazing stories from our elders!
